🚀 10 MILLION VIEWS! THANK YOU! 🎉
This is an incredible milestone and the perfect way to wrap up my Rookie Year on YouTube. And now… the real fun begins. Here’s what I want you to know:

About year ago, I made the decision to be more intentional about my content, especially here on YouTube. What started as a social experiment—breaking down the latest metabolic health science—quickly turned into something much bigger. I was blown away by the depth of enthusiasm, the diversity of voices, and the sheer passion for making metabolic health mainstream.

So, I decided to work harder on storytelling, production quality, and delivering the data in manner that I intend to balance engagement with nuance. To be clear, this is a skillset I'm still at the earliest stages of developing, and plan to keep developing for the next several decades as minimum. And despite this being “on the side” as I finish my MD at Harvard (graduating this May!), the impact has exceeded anything I imagined.

The result? Well… I’m smiling ear to ear. And that fire in my belly? It’s now a full-blown nuclear reactor. And that’s all thanks to YOU.

What’s Next?
While I can’t reveal all the details just yet, big things are coming. After graduation, we’re scaling up in a major way:
✅ Going multilingual to reach more people worldwide 🌍
✅ Expanding into medical education for doctors & students 🩺
✅ Launching global ‘chapters’ with international partners 🔗
✅ Bringing metabolic health to new platforms 📡
✅ And much, much more…

What you’ve seen so far? Just the beginning.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Let’s keep pushing forward. Let’s make metabolic health mainstream.

Great News 🏆 & Quick Cardiac Imaging Breakdown
 🫀

My team and I were recently notified that our paper looking at coronary plaque in Lean Mass-Hyper Responders (LMHR), as compared to the Miami Heart matched cohort, is the #1 Most Read in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) Advances for 2024!

The Paper: https://www.jacc.org/doi/10.1016/j.jacadv.2024.101109

Video covering the Paper: https://youtu.be/PZ9OZUDz90Y

I also want to share a new video, released yesterday, by Cardiologist Dr Bret Scher and the Metabolic Mind Team describing cardiac imaging, CAC and CCTA, a topic that confuses many people. It’s just 9 minutes and worth a watch for anyone interested in heart health! Super practical: https://youtu.be/c22fY_T1yHc?si=2u5HM...

I’m also proud to highlight that I’m a partner with Metabolic Mind, a nonprofit organization transforming the study and treatment of mental disorders by exploring the connection between metabolism and brain health: https://www.nicknorwitz.com/pages/brain-and-mental-health

The Carnivore Diet is Trending. While I'm not "pro" or "anti" carnivore per se, I do think it's a potent metabolic intervention that deserves further study. Unfortunately, a strong anti-meat bias persist in medicine, science and the media.

But we should not fight dogma with more dogma. We should fight dogma with curiosity and nuance.

That's why I put together a Newsletter debunking 8 Meat Myths. I hope you find it a useful resource for yourself, friends and family who may be interested in cutting past the headlines and fluff and getting a provocatively reasonable perspective on the carnivore diet, and meat more broadly.

🏆Build Your 30 Day Metabolic Health Challenge!🏆

One thing 2024 revealed to us is that there’s a strong public will to see sweeping change in the social structure and food environment that has caused the metabolic health epidemic.

But people aren’t waiting for policy change, they’re voting with their attention and dollars – opting to spend their personal time and efforts learning, cleaning up their diets, and transforming their N = 1 lives for the better. 2025 is going to see the Metabolic Health Revolution Rise like Phoenix.

To that end, I challenge you to start off 2025 with a metabolic health gift to yourself, a 30-day challenge!

🩸Choose your rules or select those I’ve provided (link below). Then track your progress, not on the scale on under the bench press alone, but in your blood.

To support this effort, and as a generous support for a limited time, SiPhox is offering you 50% off two at-home mail-in metabolic health testing kits plus $100 off future testing kits.

This discount was selected, not to make a profit, but to help them just cut even while ringing in the new year supporting metabolic health awareness!

🩸🩸Get you 30d challenge labs kids here: https://siphoxhealth.com/nick30
 🩸🩸

The link also describes what I’ll be doing, but this is truly a “choose your own adventure,” be it world carnivore month or vegan January. You choose and the proof is in the pudding (blood labs)

Labs you’ll get:

👉ApoA, ApoB, HDL-C, LDL-C, Triglycerides
👉Cortisol
👉Fasting Insulin
👉HbA1c
👉Testosterone
👉Estradiol, FSH
👉25-Vitamin D
👉Ferritin
👉Homocysteine
👉hsCRP
👉TSH

I also want to offer a heart-felt THANK YOU to all of you. 2024 was a big year for me personally, in many ways. But 2025 will be even bigger, and we have several exciting metabolic health-forward campaigns. These include

🩺Teaching Doctors and Doctors to-be about metabolic health via CME-accredited breakdowns of the latest science and preparatory material for the medical school entrance exam

🇮🇳Expanding to other countries and languages, including translating my highest value, most practical content into 6 local languages in India, to help support metabolic health awareness in a subcontinent with >100 million individuals with diabetes

🤓Increasing collaborations with researchers around the world, including giving them voice by incorporating clips from the primary research team into my content.

This way, you’ll get to hear from the horse’s mouth directly, and they have a chance to step out of the lab and represent their own work

💪Increasing access to N = 1 Science. This means bringing you more tools, like that mentioned above, and support/education content.

2025 is going to be AMAZING! Are you pumped to be a better you, so we can all be a better us?!

🧠 I often get asked about my suggestions for those who carry the ApoE4 gene variant, the major genetic risk factor for late onset Alzheimer's disease. Here are my high-level suggestions, with some starter references/videos.

High-Level Suggestions
👉 Low mercury fatty fish >2x per week (ideally 2+ grams EPA/DHA per day). Krill oil supplement may be useful as well.
👉 No/Very limited) alcohol intake
👉 Real EVOO is a great fat source*
👉 Engage in a ketogenic diet or intermittent fasting, at least periodically
👉 Cardio + Resistance training 5+ times per week
👉 Sleep ~7-8hr/night
👉 Stress reduction (yoga, meditation) + Social engagement**
👉 Flex your brain; Always be learning a new skill #StayCurious
👉 Don't have excess body fat, especially visceral fat

Read this paper, Precision Nutrition for ApoE4: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33921683/

Some videos to watch to 'get learning':
👉How Ketones Take out the Trash (released today): https://youtu.be/oRaNzfHF_do
👉Alzheimer's Oil: https://youtu.be/NNPM4gMsI4M
👉Metabolizing Alzheimer’s: https://youtu.be/XkTIvIhP7jQ

* Regarding EVOO, I do think it's a particularly beneficial fat and, in combination with long-chain omega-3s, a lever to pull in Alzheimer's prevention, especially in ApoE4 carriers and/or homozygotes. See section 6.3.1. in above-linked paper. However, while some will say ApoE4 carriers should avoid saturated fat and dairy, I am not convinced. Therefore, insofar as eating a delicious cheese or greek yogurt doesn't diminish from intake of other healthy fats, I think it's fine to include in a healthy ApoE4-friendly diet.

** Do as monkey say, not as monkey do. (I'm the monkey)

In truth, given the nature of the literature on Alzheimer's prevention (which different than symptomatic management), data synthesis and interpretation includes a large subjective component. I'll own that and give you my 'best guess.' But it's also important to hear other points of view and then decide what works best for you.

He Traded Pizza 🍕 for Salads🥗, and his Cholesterol Doubled!

‪@realDaveFeldman‬ just completed an experiment similar to my prior vegan-keto experiment where I showed going from an animal-based ketogenic diet to a vegan ketogenic diet increased my LDL cholesterol. In Dave's experiment, however, he went from a Standard American Diet (SAD) to a vegan-keto diet and, in 1 week, his LDL cholesterol increased from <100 mg/dl to >200 mg/dl!

Check out his video, just released: https://youtu.be/FUlkMHydv4E

Check out today's Newsletter, which breaks down the true why behind our tandem experiments: https://staycuriousmetabolism.substack.com/p/he-traded-pizza-for-salads-and-his?r=40ekz2

*And if you want early access to coverage on metabolic health science prior to video coverage on YouTube, you will want to subscribe to this Newsletter too*

And Check out an article by health journalist and registered nurse, Sheramy Tsai, that covers the experiments: https://www.theepochtimes.com/health/scientists-go-vegan-to-prove-1-diet-doesnt-fit-all-5762760

TLDR: Our goal is not to troll the internet or put value judgements on cholesterol or vegan diets. Our goal is to use metabolic demonstrations to stimulate critical thinking. #StayCurious
