I-- I'm shattered... Disappointed. Heartbroken. Sad. Crying with sorrow. Even though the entire #WhatifSeason2 visuals, fights and arcs for new characters are amazing, the story written for #DoctorStrange Supreme this last episode is horrible and repetitive. Here's my full analysis: Summary. Doctor Strange once said: "When I became a doctor, I swore an oath to do no harm. And I have just killed a man. I'm not doing that again." A character so powerful, so broken like Strange Supreme, could've work as an anti-hero (not to be confused as anti-villain). To face bigger threats than him in the Multiverse, like Shuma-Gorath, Galactus, etc... and give us a more interesting fight in this “What if?” Season 2 finale episode. Maybe, by being a Guardian of the Multiverse, he could make one last sacrifice to save the Multiverse from a different enemy and more powerful threat than him. Perhaps not as an ally in Secret Wars, but he was the goat of this “What if?” series. I know this is a very long text, but these are just my thoughts and how Strange Supreme could've gotten a better story. A tragedy over another is frustrating, and the same motivation is a boring cliché. And what he was about to do with the captured villains and heroes, felt so out of character... It was all re-using assets for a lazy story that made no sense. Personal opinion. Personally, I adored this variant with all my soul and heart as he was my comfort character because I'm an introvert and solitude girl. Just like many guys loving Spiderman, or people loving Loki, I did with Strange Supreme. He was my most favorite above all Doctor Strange variants, even more than the "616" Strange. His sacrifice hurts me a lot, and I think this sacrifice could've been different by accepting his reality, perhaps being an anti-hero fighting from the shadows. This variant was the reason and inspiration for me to get started making my own edits in 2022, I was wishing for his return anytime soon, like a true Guardian of the Multiverse... but not like this... It was exactly Wanda's treatment in MoM. All this grief, an obsession for a beloved one, and the sacrifice thing is becoming a cliché. It's a complete low-effort and repetitive arc. Back then I never wanted to post about my disappointment on this film, because I love Wanda and Doctor Strange. Also, a missed opportunity to introduce Clea earlier. I was hoping for a "team-up" to face a new enemy named Nightmare, but that's an old topic. I think Wanda deserved better just like Strange Supreme. But pay attention, I'm not justifying him. I just want to explain that he could've received better treatment. And I'm not shaming the other episodes, new characters, and new stories. The pace of this second season was mostly going excellent, but the finale just doesn't convince me. It's rushed... The writing plot. Left alone... in grief... with his inner demons. He had forsaken his atonement and was back to the kind of psychotic tactics that had doomed him. I know, it’s no doubt that loneliness is bitter and annihilates the mind, I can accept that argument, but it’s a regression and I find that kind of lazy writing. I know Strange is a threat to the Multiverse, but Strange Supreme could've proven different too. Yes, I understand some people say he didn't got any redemption arc at all. However, that’s an inaccessible attitude from the writers as an excuse to get the same frustrating and cliché motivation. Instead, they could wrote a deeper plot about overcoming a loss, and how he could’ve been an anti-hero this #WhatifS2 to defeat a more threatening enemy, and save the Multiverse with a well-developed last sacrifice. The absolute point is about Strange never being able to be with Christine, so the lesson should’ve been learned to not repeat the same mistake again. Strange needed to overcome Christine once and for all. I mean, in the comics, the true love of Doctor Strange is Clea, both have a lot more in common… Strange Supreme, as a Guardian of the Multiverse, could've been an iconic anti-hero... because although he is so overpowered, there are even more immense threats to the Multiverse with a lot of power, so he could’ve been the key to defeat those enormous threats with a more interesting fight in this “What if?” Season 2 finale episode. A hero is not always light and purity, they will always have their own demons to face, but they can choose to fight for the greater good from the shadows. Indeed, he deserved justice. It seems the writers are holding back or running out of ideas for a greater villain… He was a Guardian of the Multiverse making the 90% of the job to defeat Ultron in season 1. It was thanks to him that these multiverse guardians were protected all the time by Strange Supreme. Even we can see him being friendly and nice. After many centuries alone, he tried all his best to care for his team, and even read Carter’s biography to make a pub, so she could feel comfortable along with the other guardians. After that, he rejected Killmonger deal and imprisoned him along with Zola. Then Strange said to the Watcher “I'll watch... besides, what are friends for?” at the end. After all of this, his arc no longer evolves further without giving him a chance for another and greater redemption, for example, Loki. However, Marvel once again decides to repeat the "hero-villain-hero-villain" pattern. Even I thought there would be an epic team up with Wanda Merlin, Strange Supreme and Carter summoning more Guardians of the Multiverse to join and fight a different enemy/threat introducing us to Secret Wars, but instead we got some rushed script repeating the same villainous arc for Strange. Nevertheless, Marvel could’ve also shown what Strange Supreme's journey was like for his intervention, capturing both villains and heroes, and how he was becoming even more corrupted by his demons. Then there would be a better reason to understand what happened to him, and we wouldn't have to make assumptions (no matter if it's kinda obvious). We needed another episode about his regression. On the contrary, another plot I would’ve liked to see is that he could've mastered his demons or fought them before his sacrifice as a hope of salvation to the Multiverse, and thus to get a greater redemption. For example, like this variant of Hela getting a great redemption: this episode was inspiring, knowing that she committed many deaths, she achieved better development than Ragnarok's Hela. The same as Loki, god of stories, who despite everything in his past, sacrificed himself to give life to the Multiverse. Strange Supreme, like Wanda, is such a tragic character. His return is impossible now, he decided to sacrifice his life, to finally dominate his demons for a brief moment, but it feels so rushed and his villainous arc repeated simply doesn’t convince me. His sacrifice should’ve been saving the Multiverse from a bigger threat (not him, from another villain). Actually, I loved how no one could defeat him. He wanted to put an end to all the suffering he caused, and that's why he deserved better. It’s a vicious cycle of bad writing and bad decisions, for example Wanda's possible confirmed death in MoM. A. C. Bradley denied to redeem him and used some Shakespearean tragedy style to write Strange Supreme as a villain again by repeating the same mistake, and that's frustrating, annoying, and uninspiring. His sacrifice perhaps was necessary, he was so broken, but at what cost? Strange Supreme could do more and much better, because although he is so overpowered, there are even more immense threats to the multiverse with a lot of power, and he could’ve been the key to defeat that enormous threat in this finale season. I won’t get tired of saying this, there was a lack of better creativity to write this character, even if it was just a variant, he had potential for greater battles. He was even a better variant than the one from the 616 universe, which has also got misleading writing in the latest movies. A vicious cycle of bad writing and bad decisions, for example Wanda's possible confirmed death in MoM. Conclusion. As I wanna avoid toxicity, I'll accept this repetitive arc from Strange Supreme being just another villain who dies because of the same mistake, but it's under protest. Yet I won't argue with strangers who will not change my mind, and I won't change theirs too. I alone, neither anyone of us, will never be able to change the idea of an entertainment company that currently has mediocre writers. So, I'll ignore this lousy script, and just admire the beauty of this character like the Wanda stans do. At least Strange Supreme is serving, but I will always be outraged by the way they treated him like Wanda. RIP Doctor Strange Supreme 💔 I'll miss him... so much... My comfort for my solitude days. I will never forget his sacrifice, but it's so painful... He was so sweet and amazing in that Ultron episode; I really thought the writers made a great character’s development… but… no… I formally hate #Marvel now. I just loved Guardians of the Galaxy, Wanda Maximoff, Natasha Romanoff, Hela, and of course, Doctor Strange... but that's it... There's gonna be a point where I won't do edits anymore, I'm lately getting unmotivated for many reasons. So sorry for the TL;DR. If you read it, thank you, I appreciate it a lot. Be seeing you. Note: You may think I’m delusional for all of this, and perhaps I am… But I'm not he only one. Many writers take the decision to destroy power scaling and thus open the doors to new characters, but it feels forced and makes no sense. Yes, this is all fiction and entertainment, but this is becoming a pain in the a$s, and that lazy writing is the reason of their failures and why superheroes films/series are often despised. Please, no hate or agues here. No need to understand my disappointment, I'm just writing my honest opinion and reaction. Respect mine as I can respect yours. Peace and farewell.
