Aruna Gunarathna is the former editor of the only cinema newspaper in Sri Lanka, 'Sarasaviya'.He was the editor for a long time, such as twelve years. He was also a member of the Sri Lanka State Film Advisory Council for a while and member of the jury of many film, television and literary award ceremonies in the country.All the top film directors and actors in the country have held discussions with him for the newspaper. He has written several books on the history of cinema. He also served as an external lecturer on cinema at the Sripali Campus of the University of Colombo. Aruna who also worked as a film director in the Government Film Division, has directed 10 documentaries. Suriya Winsathi is a telefilm he directed. contributed to many programs on cinema on almost all television channels in the country. also participated in many international film festivals. He is considered one of the few people who have studied the history of cinema in Sri Lanka well.
