I've identified a couple holes in my websites that were in need of filling so I threw up frutiger metro all over Kamaitachi. Such is life. Sadly I expect YT to vore it and spit it out at 144p and such is also life.

I wanted to throw back to this series hosting exclusive content by showing the largest pile of 'exclusive content' I can muster: every little thing of mine that cannot be viewed on its own, reaching back to the days before this post series even began. In this compilation is mostly things that haven't appeared in other compilations, but a handful of items got fisheyed along the way. There remains some clips I've contributed to where I'm not the primary collaborator/artist, so it doesn't feel right to include them here, but other than those, this is the true treasure trove of rare Battalia content. I haven't participated in Sprout Fight before, I had always thought it was a collaborative thing like the Art Fight offseason minigames, but at least this year it ended up being a perfect candidate to make a post with. They provided a list of prompts and a handful of palettes for participants to go ham with; I chose 'Ribbit' and the Morning Glories palette because of how well they fit Fizz. I'll tag this post with  #SproutFight2025  though tbh I have no clue if that'll do anything on a community post.                 
         
I went for something very graphic here, highlighting the limited palette and shapes of the character, though I did add black for lineart and a very light gray that weren't in the palette because I find it incredibly hard to make anything coherent without at least one of the two. I haven't drawn Fizz very frequently or at any time recently so it was nice albeit stressful to figure out the frog's goofy hands and overall peculiar anatomy, frogs are in fact REALLY hard to draw but Fizz is worth it.

The life issues I discussed a couple weeks back are still affecting me, but I couldn't let that stop me from playing out this channel's best yearly tradition. Unfortunately I was under the impression Waking The Witch was a well known animation meme and Picture Day was a well known internet funny so it may have fell kinda flat lmao help

With this post I'm technically kinda sorta releasing the shader used in Waking The Witch! It's really deceptively simple, but it does rely on a fault present in Goo Engine version 4.1 that may not exist in later versions. It also only works in Goo Engine thanks to a reliance on its custom Curvature node, though due to the Goo Engine / Blender merger it may become available in base Blender sometime this year, which may or may not have the required fault.                 
         
Basically, all models are set to a black material with both Curvature node elements added. Not pictured below is the textures for Vaingloria's scars, which are also added at the end. The key to the wireframe effect is that the model has an active Subdivision modifier. Applying the modifier (as one should) will make the model perfectly smooth, but for this effect we want the Curvature node to outline the geometry drawn by Subdivide since that's what makes the effect. In addition to this shader Waking The Witch also uses a Line Art grease pencil object to draw contours, creases, intersections, and edge marks such as the eyebrow. Those lines are thicker than the Curvature node results which make the model itself more readable. For comparison, the other models in Waking The Witch use a common fresnel method which is a lot less refined and doesn't offer the same depth portrayal as the faulty Curvature method, done intentionally so they look a bit more otherworldly.

Hey I'm in this one //B 

Obviously no post yesterday, but I wanted to give a bit of an update instead:

I am currently undergoing a family emergency that has been weighing heavily on my life as of late. I won't lie to you and say that I'm taking emergency commissions, I'm always taking commissions and now is no different. Perhaps if you've been considering for a while I may say that now is a good time.

I try to keep personal woes out of channel ongoings but I imagine this will have a tangible impact for the foreseeable future. I'll still keep up with weekly posts whenever possible since that is how I keep my skills up, but I imagine a bi-monthly upload rate or lower.

As promised, this is the second half of the funny painterly piece from last time, featuring Magnum. The full piece is still not 100% done but it'll manifest one of these days. Hopefully this one isn't so crunched as Genesis thank you yubtubs                 
         
Magnum's a funny design because in Takeover having truly grayscale Night Legionnaires are incredibly uncommon; I'd argue he probably has melanism or something to that effect to be truly void of pigment like this. There's in fact an error on his ref that makes two colour bodies identical, this will be fixed soon as this post goes up lmao. I also gave him more visible scales than Genesis because I imagine his skin is somewhat rougher.

I'd previously had some 'backwards compatibility' if you will with some older obsolete pages but they've become too costly to upkeep so they are now poofed. You won't miss them, you probably didn't even know they still existed. For quite some time now I've been aware of my portfolio severely lacking in true paintings, or really anything that doesn't have a basis of lineart. This... ended up with a lot more lines than I was expecting but like, it's the technique that counts, right?? I'm still working on it okay               
         
Out of all my characters there is not one that would have an in-universe painting done of them, but I figure out of everyone the characters most befitting one would be Genesis and Magnum, Red Leader's parents. This is just a snapshot of Genesis's half of that full piece. Unlike what you're probably thinking the two aren't a toxic couple, they're both just massive stoics, so no smiling in this portrait lmao.

File Garden is back up after roughly a week of downtime, but during that time I also completely migrated my site to a different host, so everything now loads much snappier! Some pages are still missing, namely the ArtFight CSS related ones and probably some MAP pages, but they will all be restored shortly.   
        
I also finally added a tag filtering system to my ToyHouse that works (sort of) and isn't horrible. Clicking on a tag does nothing but if you use the new 'search by tags' button on my character directory you get a handful of sorting options. Adding new tags as I go, the character directory should still work for most needs, but this is meant to cover the more niche ones.

I lied about an upload last week because I realised it'd be more thematically appropriate to hold it until the 14th. Tee hee. For once I'm not doing any parts or projects for the holiday so why not. Read on to the Changes section this week, it's important.

I hadn't known this pain scale was a meme until yesterday, so I followed my obligation and showed off which Takeover characters are jolly and carefree and which have seen unspeakable horrors (mental pain). From left to right they are Seraph, Eclipse, Miracle, Archetto, Margay and Integrity.              
         
The 'joke', if you could call it that, is that Integrity's trauma is so severe it has caused them to abandon all emotion and humanity - they are willfully mute and do nothing else than focus on their job as the Red Army's lead medic. They have completely shut themselves off from the world so nothing can hurt them anymore. It's easily the most tragic of all my Takeover characters. The others have various degrees of love life woes and family issues, with Margay coming in second with his poor handling of Red Leader's betrayal. Takeover is a story of love and companionship, so of course there's going to be a lot of pain resulting from drama lmao

I've been using File Garden as a file host for quite some time now after ditching Imgur and ImgBB around the time Discord nuked file hosting. Sadly due to a snafu which at this time appears to be the fault of GoDaddy (any surprise?) direct links to File Garden files are currently not working. That means almost every image on my websites are broken. Admittedly this is a fault I should have predicted, but keeping track of hundreds of files on multiple sites is a bit of a pain so I hadn't... I'm hoping File Garden will be back soon but I'll try to make copies of the most important files and have redundant HTML for them, which isn't possible on some places like ArtFight and ToyHouse so it'll really only benefit my site and a handful of other things sadly. Aside from that it's out of my control and I apologise for any inconvenience!
