After two weeks of back breaking work Delos is back in the water! With our two year mark approaching in French Polynesia we were faced with the decision of paying import taxes OR sailing somewhere else. I’ve never been a fan of paying taxes I don’t have to so a few weeks ago I left the loves of my life in Australia and headed to Raiatea with my good friend Bill (Calico Skies) who was up for an adventure. Bill left Calico Skies in Fiji, flew to Brisbane for a few days to help out with Delos 2.0 then we caught a jet airplane to Tahiti, slept on the floor of the airport, and carried on to Raiatea. It only took 24 hours. Since Sierra still needed to finish up this term of school and there was lot’s going on with Delos 2.0 Kazza and Sierra stayed behind to hold down the fort while Bill and I accepted the mission get Delos ready. We hit the ground running and replaced the transmission, exhaust, grey water manifold, bilge pumps, fixed the keel, serviced the prop and shaft bearings, serviced the bow thruster, repaired the outboard, sanded the bottom, painted the bottom, painted the boot stripe, repaired and painted Maggie, repaired the boot stripes, fixed the freezer, and so much more. Really that’s just the highlights…. there is an infinite list of things to do after leaving a sailboat in the tropics for 10 months. It was long days filled with back breaking work and long nights filled with mosquito bites and early morning wake up calls from the roosters. But we managed to splash her after only two weeks!!! Sierra and Kazza arrived a few days ago and we’re going to sail to Fiji. Stay tuned and sending much love from Delos in French Polynesia!
