For those of you who haven't yet heard, Trump is now threatening to send as many as 30,000 undocumented immigrants to Guantanamo Bay. This is where the United States takes enemy combatants to avoid laws and due process. It's such a horrific place that President Obama tried to have it shut down in 2009. 

Trump says that this is only for "the worst criminals," but nobody believes that. He also said ICE would only target immigrants with a criminal record, but they've been detaining US citizens, veterans, hardworking mothers, and Native Americans.

"They're just going after criminals. If you don't commit crimes you'll be fine."

No, they're going after everyone who "looks like an immigrant." They just had to claim they're going after criminals so the American public would go along with it.

Trump just signed the Laken Riley Act today. This requires the Department of Homeland security to detain any non-citizens who are caught or charged with theft, even if it's a misdemeanor.

This law is named after Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student from Georgia who was killed by an undocumented immigrant. It was a tragedy, and the Trump administration is unfortunately exploiting it to advance their political agenda. 

The truth is, undocumented immigrants commit crimes, including homicide, at much lower rates than American citizens. Using one case to strip constitutional protections from all undocumented immigrants isn’t about safety—it’s an attack on American freedoms.

The Trump administration just revoked an extension for the 600,000 Venezuelans protected by TPS. These are legal immigrants who have been living in the United States and making positive contributions to society. 

Before leaving office, the Biden Administration extended TPS for Venezuelans by 18 months. Trump just canceled that, and his new Homeland Security Secretary is accusing these immigrants of "violating laws" even though they're here legally. As a result, their protections could be gone as soon as April.

Around a million immigrants from 17 different countries rely on TPS, and the Trump Administration just made it clear they intend to take these protections away. We knew this was coming, but it's still shocking to see. If you're currently protected by TPS, please start exploring your options for legal status.

ICE agents recently conducted a warrantless raid at a fish market in Newark, New Jersey. They detained eight people without showing proof of a warrant, including four women who were all mothers. They also detained a US military veteran and disputed his military documentation even after he showed it to them. 

The Fourth Amendment of the US Constitution prevents ANYONE (yes, that includes people who are not documented) from illegal search and seizure. That makes this raid unconstitutional. Not only that, these people were not the "criminals" that the Trump administration keeps claiming them to be. They were hardworking people making a valuable contribution to this country.

ICE agents can now enter schools, healthcare facilities, and places of worship to arrest anyone they think is undocumented. Trumps' border czar Tom Holman also said that undocumented people who DON'T have a criminal record "could be swept up by ICE," and especially those who live in sanctuary cities. That means ANYONE undocumented is a potential target, despite the Trump administration claiming they're only going after criminals.

This is the executive order Trump just signed that is going to bring back "extreme vetting" and the "travel ban." 

It says that the government is going to start checking everyone applying for a visa or trying to come into the United States, which means the entire legal immigration system is going to slow to a crawl. 

It also says that within 60 days they are going to decide which countries will get "a partial or full suspension on the admission of nationals," meaning they will ban some or all people from those countries. 

And it gives the government permission to ban people or remove them for the country based on their ideology. That means you can have your status taken away and be removed from the country if the government decides they don't like the way you think.

It happened, Trump signed an executive order to end birthright citizenship. If it is successful, that means children born in the US to undocumented parents could be denied citizenship. The ACLU has already filed a lawsuit to challenge it in court. Birthright citizenship is established in the 14th amendment to the US constitution, and it says:

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."

Trump is officially in office and is shutting down immigration as quickly as he promised. Today at noon CBP One went offline, an app used by hundreds of thousands of migrants to apply for asylum. All migrants who had pending appointments have since had them canceled.

Remember: during his first term, Trump put the travel ban into effect just one week into taking office. He's made it clear that he plans on doing the same during his second term, and could even include more countries in the ban. So be careful if you're a non-citizen traveling internationally this week—there's the chance you might have trouble coming back into the country.
