Persimmon blends together an electric mix of jazz, neo-soul, R&B, hip-hop, spoken word, and dance/electronica - rooted in the band’s early foundations in contemporary jazz. Our music blends creative improvisation and groove-driven rhythms with lyrics that speak to grief, longing, anti-capitalist rage and utopian dreaming. We simply enjoy playing together, developing ideas, and having fun on stage, all while sharing fresh music with new audiences—especially those who may be unexcited by more traditional jazz approaches. We are inspired by the current UK jazz scene and we love making music that’s fresh, vibrant, and accessible, while speaking directly to audiences. We’ve put our own spin on well-loved jazz and neo-soul classics over the last year, and our next era sees us shifting our focus onto producing more original music and discovering our unique sound.
