If I had to describe our NZ Plein Air tour with one word, it'd be EPIC!

I’m back, momentarily catching my breath after an absolutely incredible art tour through some of the most breathtaking locations New Zealand has to offer. From the towering peaks of the Southern Alps to serene riverside vistas and lush pastoral landscapes, this journey was a feast for the senses—and the canvas.

Our group of passionate artists immersed themselves in the natural beauty of Aotearoa, capturing its majesty through plein air painting sessions. Whether it was perfecting compositions under crisp white marquees or finding inspiration in the historic charm of rustic stone cottages, every moment brought new challenges, discoveries, and triumphs. The results were stunning—artworks infused with light, color, and heart.

The camaraderie among the group made it even more special. Watching each artist bring their unique vision to life and supporting one another through the creative process was a highlight of this tour. It’s these connections, alongside the unforgettable landscapes, that make these experiences truly transformative.

As I take a short break to regroup and prepare, I can’t wait to welcome the next round of artists for our upcoming adventure. These tours sold out quickly, and it’s no surprise—being surrounded by this much beauty and creative energy is a rare privilege.

Thank you to everyone who made this tour a success. To those joining me next, get ready—there’s so much more magic to uncover.

This pencil portrait took me several days to complete, drawing just 2 hours a day. It’s part of my daily habit I call the Sketchendeavour—a practice I started years ago to get in consistent “sketch time.” Let me tell you, it’s been transformative.

Right now, I’m also tackling the 100 Heads Challenge, and Brian here is #28. This challenge has been invaluable in pushing me to improve—it’s amazing what happens when you immerse yourself in focused practice.

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is this: improvement comes when you consciously track your progress.

Take time to evaluate where you’ve been, what’s working, and where you need to grow. Seeing your weak points isn’t failure—it’s your roadmap to improvement.

If you’ve been struggling with your art or feeling stuck, I encourage you to embrace consistency, set challenges, and track your progress. Trust me, it’s worth it.

What daily habits or challenges have helped you improve your art? Share below—I’d love to hear!
