My goal is to provide a reasonably priced complete overview of drawing fundamentals with this workshop. Whether you're brand new to drawing or looking to return to the fundamentals and level up, this will be the place to start. I'm going to cover art history, practical drawing fundamentals, and draw live on camera during each session. If you can't make it live, you get to keep the recordings. I hope to see you all there!

🚨New Video! 🚨Fully walking through my mixed Media Sketching Process! its a 90 minute demonstration where I talk about materials, Markers, Charcoal, and the ideas I think about while sketching. This video is for Members only! You can join for $5 a month and get access to exclusive content. I'm going to try to make a few videos like this a month for members, you guys can ask me questions and suggest topics you want to see videos on. Next I think I'll show my figure sketching process. Your guys memberships allow me to take my time to learn and develop my own unique artistic ideas. Because of your support, I'm not pushing out slop TikTok reacts. I'm taking my time to bring my own vision of art to the world. I am eternally grateful for any of your support.
It's a big monetary hit to not make a high frequency of videos. I'm also going to try to not take any sponsorships for my upcoming big 3D video. There are certain videos where I want completely creative control and cant compromise the pacing of the video with a sponsorship. I have grand ambitions and the sacrifice is worth it! I'm happy to be working on such fulfilling content right now.

🚨🚨 Discord Art Challenges are happening right now! 🚨🚨 Every two weeks I give a new prompt to my Discord to draw from. Tons of artists, from beginners to advanced, participate in drawing and painting in both digital and traditional mediums. Sometimes I do critiques (previous ones can be found on the Live section of my page). This week we're working from a couple different portrait references. This is my painting so far. I've spent about 5 or 6 hours in over 3 sessions. I'll probably spend about 3-6 more hours to bring it to a finish over the next week. This challenge ends in one week! Join in now, ask for help, chat with other members, learn, and have fun. Any skill level is welcome.

🔴Upcoming Content: This week I am going to try and record an unedited demo where I walk people through my sketching process, and talk about how I think about drawings and other yappage. This will be available as Members-only content. I've been experimenting with combinations of markers with sketching materials.

Happy new years everyone! In April I had 1000 subscribers, today I have 350,000. 🎉🎉🎉
🎉⭐🎉⭐🎉⭐🎉⭐
It's been an incredible journey, when I started learning art I knew that the art education world was stagnant. So many people are interested in the amazing paintings of the past, but there's no clear understanding of how to get there. I've learned so much over this past year that hasn't only made me a better content creator but also a better artist. I'm still finding my voice in the content I make but 2025 is going to be an entirely new world that artTube hasn't seen before. I'm so excited. Wishing you all a great year, it's been because of all of you that I've been able to get here. <3

New Video is out early for members! Over the past few months, I've been thinking a lot about how I approach making videos and I've never been more excited for the future.

I learned how to draw by doing everything in the most technical way. I did the 250-box challenge, and I grinded every exercise I could find online. I looked for whatever practice regime or training exercises that would finally unlock the ability to make great art. But I always felt like I was falling behind. I could make a decent piece, especially if it was a copy but I was completely hopeless when designing anything original for myself. As I started to learn more about history and how the masters of the past learned, I realized that they never did most of the stuff I was doing. And more importantly, they were grinding technical skills for a reason. They had competitions to win or great narrative artwork to make. On the contrary, I was just grinding to 'unlock' the next level of skill so I could feel good enough to proceed.

When I started making videos, I didn't really care that much about editing. I had a video that I wanted to make and I learned whatever editing tricks I needed to complete the video as quickly as possible. Each time I sat down to make something, I learned one new effect I could use. At first, it was very small like simple keyframing but over time those effects began to stack on each other. I learned to make videos the exact opposite way that I learned how to draw. Instead of watching a 10-hour masterclass that goes over every setting, I just made things that I wanted to make and learned as I went. I don't have as deep of a knowledge as If I learned every setting but I'm also not frozen by all the technical details that don't matter at the end of the day.

Now I'm realizing that IS the secret training regimen to get good at something. Start first with your own creative voice. That is the one thing that Is unique to you (and no, learning and copying others will not take away from that, only add to it). As you encounter problems take the time to properly learn how to deal with them in small doses and immediately take that back to your own creative work. It's important to work on your fundamentals but you need to do it in a way that you enjoy and empowers you to be an artist. I'm taking longer to make videos now, not only because they're much more highly produced. If I give myself the time to explore my own creative ideas, I can create something great. The next video is going to take a while because I only know the starting point of it and I need to take the journey first. Channel members help keep this vision alive, I promise you that great things will happen. 7 months ago I had about 1k subs on YouTube, in a few years who knows where we will be. Thanks to all the members who keep me going, your support means more than you can know.

YOU SUCK AT DRAWING PORTRAITS (and so do I): PREMIERING: https://youtu.be/QB9t5vYqz3k

It's been a while since I posted, and here’s why. A few months ago, I realized that while I was making a lot of content, I was losing sight of what really mattered to me. So, I took a step back—and then drove myself insane making a new video.

I’ve spent two months on this. Countless days and nights editing, drawing, and filming. This is something I truly care about, and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever made before. I hope some of you can connect with the feelings I poured into it, no matter where you are in your art journey.

By the way, the Loomis method isn’t real.

I didn’t take any sponsors for this video because I wanted complete creative control. I’m really proud of how it turned out. It’s live three days early exclusively for channel members! If you want to support more massive creative projects like this, consider joining the channel to access the video early. Plus, you’ll get access to beginner drawing tutorials too.

🎉🎉🎉Channel Memberships are now open!🎉🎉🎉

I've uploaded some of my 'Academic Drawing Made Easy Fundamentals course for all of my new channel members to watch. This is a really great introduction to learning how to draw with strong fundamentals. it goes over what materials you need to start, how to get accurate proportions, how to make your drawings feel 3D, and more!

Members also get custom emojis to use in stream chat! I really appreciate all the support you guys give to me and I'm working on so much more to give back. Stay tuned for another art gaming stream on Sunday. I think it's time we give painting in Rust a shot. Consider hitting the 'Join' Button on my profile if you want to support more streams and content.

On another note: No new video this week :( I'm working really hard to improve the quality of videos and I wasn't happy with how this one turned out. I'm still going to cut it down and upload it as a TikTok/Reel. But I'm working on an even bigger and better oil painting video. I'm going to try to copy one of the most difficult figure paintings ever made.

Thanks so much❤️

🎉🎉🎉 150K Subs in TWO MONTHS🎉🎉🎉🎉

Thanks so much to everyone who has supported this channel! I have no words for the insane growth here and I'm working nonstop every day to bring bigger and better things for you all. Videos will be a little slow for the next week, I just moved into a new studio space. More room for activities!

I have a dark fantasy for my next traditional video that I think you all will like. It's going to be a massive project that will push me way past my comfort zone. In between the longer traditional videos, I'm going to keep making fun gaming videos, I've been gaming my whole life but I've never tried any of these art games and they're really pushing me to think about art differently and have fun. I'm so tired of the boring fine art/academic world. Art needs to be fun and approachable for everyone, you can learn and have fun at the same time.

For those of you who bought my Academic Drawing Made Easy course, I am going to reshoot and drastically expand it into a huge drawing course for beginners. I've made so many tech upgrades now so I can shoot traditional drawings with no distortion and great lighting. I'll be sending out freebies and discounts from the new course to everyone who bought the old one. I want to make sure that everyone feels happy with the course. Give me some time to get all of this started and I will be a content demon soon😈

These are a few demos from my live drawing classes over Discord. These classes started 3 weeks ago, but the next round of classes will begin in August or early September. If you want updates you can join my mailing list at Jaketaplin.art or purchase the recordings there as well.
