ROME: A DREAM COME TRUE, TWICE. 🇮🇹✨

Rome has always been the dream destination for us. The first time we went, it was July, and while we were completely in awe of the city, we also learned the hard way that summer in Rome means scorching heat, never-ending crowds, and melting while waiting in Vatican lines. Still, walking through history, eating our weight in pasta, and finally seeing the Colosseum in person made it all worth it.

But this past December, we got to experience Rome in a completely different way—with my parents. As devout Catholics, visiting the Vatican, attending mass at St. Peter’s Basilica, and standing in the very heart of their faith was something deeply meaningful to them. And honestly? Seeing them take it all in, with the city glowing in Christmas lights, made this trip even more special.

Moments like these remind us why moving to Spain was the best decision we ever made. Being EU residents means traveling is so much easier—no visas, quick flights, and so many places just a short trip away. If you’ve ever thought about traveling more (or even making a big move yourself), just go for it. You never know what unforgettable experiences are waiting for you.

Think you might have Spanish roots? Here’s how to find out and apply for citizenship under the Ley de Memoria Democrática! 🇪🇸✨

1️⃣ Start with your family history:
 • Talk to relatives and look for any connections to Spain. Did your parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents have Spanish citizenship or emigrate from Spain?
 • Check family records like birth, marriage, or death certificates.
 • If you’re unsure, use genealogy websites like Ancestry.com or MyHeritage to trace your family tree.

2️⃣ Check if you qualify:
This law is for descendants of:
 • Spanish emigrants, especially those who left during the Spanish Civil War or Franco regime.
 • Your parent(s) or grandparent(s) must have been Spanish citizens or exiles.

3️⃣ Gather the documents you’ll need:
To apply, you’ll need:
 • Proof of Spanish ancestry: Birth or nationality certificates of your Spanish ancestor(s).
 • Your birth certificate: Official, translated, and apostilled.
 • Valid ID: Passport or government-issued ID.
 • Family connection proof: Family tree, marriage certificates, or other documents linking you to your Spanish ancestors.
 • Statement of intent: A short letter explaining why you want citizenship under the law.
 • Proof of exile (if applicable): Any records showing your ancestors fled Spain for political reasons.

4️⃣ Submit your application:
 • Take all your documents to the nearest Spanish consulate or embassy.
 • They’ll guide you through the process and confirm if you’re eligible.

Hey everyone, Paul and Bea here. As we wrap up this incredible (and sometimes challenging) year, we just wanted to take a moment to reflect and share our hearts with you.

✨ Reflecting on 2024

This year has been one for the books – finally getting our Spanish citizenship felt surreal. Testing the waters by traveling within the EU with just our DNI was a dream we never thought would come true. 

But, with every high comes a few bumps along the way. We’re still on the path of learning the language, immersing in the culture, and just trying to be good immigrants. It’s humbling and exciting all at once.

One of the hardest moments was the incident in Lisbon – having our gear stolen while we were sleeping in the next room was tough. To this day, the police haven’t given us any updates. It’s been a reminder that not every adventure goes as planned. But through it all, we’re grateful to have this platform to continue sharing our lives with you.

On a brighter note, we hit some huge milestones – growing this community, launching the Ask Us Anything program, and creating more travel content than ever. Connecting with so many of you through Buy Me a Coffee and Zoom calls has been the most rewarding part of it all. The stories you share, the questions you ask – it reminds us why we started this journey in the first place.

We couldn’t do any of this without YOU – this community, our friends, family, and the incredible collaborations we’ve had this year. Whether you’ve been here since day one or just stumbled upon our channel, your support means the world to us.

🌍 Looking Ahead to 2025

Our dream has always been to explore the world, and now that Spain has opened doors to limitless possibilities, we’re ready to dive deeper. As brand-new Spaniards (still feels weird saying that!), we can’t wait to share more about life in Spain, the moving process, and what it’s like to travel as Filipinos with Spanish passports.

This year, we’re also focusing on each other – our health, our families, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. It’s easy to get lost in the hustle, but we’re learning to slow down and savor the moments.

🎇 On a Personal Note

We’re ringing in the New Year back in the Philippines, surrounded by family – Bea’s family, Paul’s sister and her family, and Paul’s parents who are retiring here. It feels full circle.

To anyone feeling nervous or scared about stepping out of your comfort zone – trust us, you’re doing something right. Growth happens in those uncomfortable, messy moments. Whether you’re thinking of moving to Spain, starting over somewhere new, or just making a big life change – follow that gut feeling. In the end, you owe it to yourself to look back and say, “I’m glad we gave it a shot.”

Here’s to new adventures, uncharted territories, and finding home wherever your heart leads you.
