Wow, what a turn of events! After Ray Comfort released a video calling me out with several false accusations, there have been some notable developments. I released a response video addressing what was said (I encourage you to watch it), and then noticed Ray DELETED his video from Facebook and made it private on YouTube, making it inaccessible. This made me wonder - did Ray have a change of mind about it? Because my video wasn’t attacking Ray or calling him a false teacher. In fact, I expressed genuine appreciation for him and mentioned how much I’ve learned from his ministry. The video was simply a gentle encouragement for us all to be clearer in how we present the gospel. Specifically, so people don’t get the impression that salvation is by “living holy and trusting in Jesus” - but instead understand it’s by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. Living holy is the fruit of salvation, not the means to gain it. In that video, I shared a chat I had with a young man who, after hearing how Ray presents the gospel, had interpreted it as performance-based. I made it clear that I didn’t think that was Ray’s intention, but the conversation was an encouragement toward clarity - so the message of grace isn't mistaken for one of works. So when Ray took his video down, I wondered - had he reconsidered? Would he reach out so we could have a friendly conversation? I even emailed him again personally (as I had earlier in the week), but received no response. Instead, 12 hours after Ray pulled down his video, he made it public once more. Now, even if Ray doesn't take it down again, what I REALLY hope comes from all this, is that Ray will come for a conversation on how we can be clearer in how we explain the response to the gospel. I think a chat like this would be SO valuable for the wider Christian community to see us talk through how we can all be as clear and faithful as possible in evangelism. To those reading this: If you’d like to see that happen, feel free to comment or message Ray to encourage him to have that kind of conversation.
