I first truly understood the phrase “Wherever you go, there you are” during a summer in Hawaii when I was 19. As an over-ambitious college senior juggling a double course load, I was determined to finish my studies quickly and impatient to chase my dream career. Over the summer, it was cheaper to leave my cramped, loathsome apartment and study as a visiting student at UH Manoa, so I seized the opportunity. When I arrived in Oahu, I was surprised that even amidst perfect weather and postcard-worthy sunsets, my mental anguish and mind chatter were as intrusive on a remote paradise beach as when I was crawling on my hands and knees up a snowy hill in Staten Island during a blizzard commute. It took well over a decade, but I eventually learned that no matter where you are, the present moment—and your relationship with yourself and the world around you—most affect inner peace and contentment. This realization inspired my latest release on Meditation Tides, “Wherever You Go." I designed this short meditation so you can relax, breathe, and reconnect with yourself anytime, anyplace. If you find it hard to meditate during the day, this practice is quick and easy—only five minutes (or maybe an easy-breezy five-and-a-half).
