Introductions: We, Trevor & Danielle, are from Ahipara, NZ, and are on a mission to GAP IT in 2024. In our 20s, we never got the “big OE” or international “gap year” experience. We have travelled a bit, we aren’t complete novices, but we’ve always had a return ticket and a finite travel window. Now in our 50’s we’re stepping out of a 30-year comfort zone to hit the air running. Greying hair, a sore knee, pinching back, etc etc (if you’re 50+ then you know) means doing it in a different way than the 20-something-year-old Trevor and Danielle would have. We need to be brutally honest and upfront. We aren’t influencers, we’re not rich and famous, no Instamodels or Facebook fashionistas here. We are your average, unfit, frugal, amateur grown-ups proving anyone can “gap it”, and we understand community, connection and content creation. When people ask us where are we going - we reply “We don’t know”, and when they ask how long are you going for we say “Ummmm, until the money runs out”
